Austin-area home starts near 10-year high
A surge in second-quarter activity sent Central Texas housing starts to their highest annual level in nearly a decade, fueled by the region’s healthy job growth, the latest figures show. Builders started construction on 13,423 houses during the 12 months that ended in June, according to Metrostudy, which tracks the housing market in 40 metro areas nationwide, including the Austin area.
